Career Management Course
Each partner in Next Generation will have the chance to send an emerging artist from their company on our new Opera Europa Career Management Course (CMC), due to take place annually from 2025 to 2028. For OENG partners in central and eastern Europe, the first CMC took place in Warsaw hosted by Polish National Opera from 23 to 25 October 2025. The next CMC will take place in Dortmund hosted by Opernstudio NRW from 9 to 11 November 2025. This edition is open in priority to OENG partners in Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany and The Netherlands.
Online training
To complement the artistry-focused professional development followed by Emerging Artists, Opera Europa Next Generation offers online training modules focusing on building career resilience and encouraging artistic entrepreneurship and innovation. The next training session will take place on Monday 30 November 2026 18:00 CET and is about making a success of audition video tapes. As part of our online training initiative, Opera Europa Next Generation is offering a one-hour Zoom session on how to go about producing audition recordings that stand out, touching on recording technology, but focussed on artistic preparation and integrating recording into singers’ professional development. The session is free, open to all singers working for Opera Europa member companies.
Audio-visual training
In January 2025, Opera Europa was in Ukraine to run a four day audio-visual workshop at Lviv National Opera for the five Ukrainian member theatres of the Opera Europa Next Generation consortium. Multi-camera directors and score readers from Dnipro, Lviv, Odesa and Kyiv (Open Opera Ukraine and the Operetta Theatre) worked intensely on scripting, switching, cropping, framing, backing up, editing …learning the art of loving opera and ballet through a camera lens!
Opera Europa Next Generation is about bringing the professionals working in opera and ballet closer together - regardless of geographic borders - to learn from each other. These days in Lviv were a powerful reminder about how important the performing arts can be to bring communities together in difficult times. Opera Europa’s Ukrainian theatres are an inspiration. In particular Lviv National Opera which, with impeccable organisation, pulled off two full rehearsals and two excellent peformances of Giselle and Madama Butterfly for our cameras, all the while juggling a schedule of five other sold-out performances during in our visit. This productivity would be the envy of any theatre in peace time and is all the more remarkable given that - as the occasional air raid alarm reminded us - the war, even in the western part of Ukraine, is never far away.
